Hi, I'd just like to say how fantastic your Blog is, keep up the good work, thanks again. John
Fantastic ! It was down to Digger & IQ32 i started getting in to the American stuff around 83'before discovering Maximum Rock n Roll, picking imports up in Probe in Liverpool...happy days ! Phoenix From The Crypt was another great fanzine in Liverpool around the same time.Im sure Digger did another fanzine with a different name around 85'could be wrong though ! Thanks for these.....
'indoctrination for the ignorant children' was the zine ( one issue only) digger did in '85 - coming up in the next batch of uploads
Well, well....never thought I'd see these posted here!
IQ32 #1 was the 1st zine I ever bought. It was from an ad in the back of Sounds I think. 1982? An education in international HC is right......from this zine I immersed myself in US and Euro HC with Digger regularly doing me tapes of the nascent Finnish scene amongst others. Thanks to him I picked up 'This Is Boston Not LA' and then a slew of others for years after. This really was a break away from the UK plod-punk of the era - Chron Gen, Anti Nowhere League et al. I was kept up to date with the latest “fastest band ever!” courtesy of his zeal – DRI one month, Neos the next, Siege the next!
Living in rural Dorset this was a vital lifeline in an isolated scene, and influenced me to get involved in local Dorchester ‘zine Mentally Unstable – which ran to 4 issues in total.
I was up in Liverpool in 84 but missed Digger (real name Graham?) – he was out when I cold-called. Went to Probe (staffed by by pre-Dead Or Alive Pete Burns!) and drooled at the HC imports. Scanned quickly through the cheapo 7”s bin but MISSED the copy of Youth Brigade’s “Possible” EP he told me later he’d picked up only 2 days after I’d been in there! Gutted!
Along with ‘Black/White’ and ‘Suicide? No Murder’ ‘IQ32’ was a crucial UK zine for opening up ‘foreign’ punk to UK ears.
