BOILING POINT

again stolen here and reposted without any shame!

PHOENIX MILITIAAARGH

Having read many 'extreme' magazines, it always brought a wry smile to my face when I see Phoenix Militia mentioned in such mythical and hushed tones... it is my belief that many of the people who mention the magazine are actually too young to have actually seen it, never mind had the opportunity to read i

This is issue number 8 - the final issue to be made by Bill and Pek (Pek was a local scene guru who organzied many a death metal/hardcore gig here in Liverpool). At the time of printing, Bill had joined Napalm Death as a stand-in guitarist until a permanent player could be found (Bill had his own band commitments with CARCASS at the time) and the amount of mail he was receiving week by week for both bands as well as P.M. was beyond intense by anyone's standards! Cover art drawn by Jeff Walker, Bill's counterpart in Carcass and who also drew the cover for ND's first lp 'Scum'

Being a friend of Bill's I am sure he wont mind me bringing his work to the net. This site is strictly non-profit (as are all of my sites) and is purely a mark of admiration for the man. Every person who makes it to this site should recognize the fact that death metal has had a very hard upbringing and it has come down to individuals like Bill to make the commitment needed to ensure that death metal was never just a passing fad in the history of music, but a living breathing entity that is still making waves today

Not all death metallers are completely stupid, but may I add just this one cautionary note: Writing to any of the bands addresses displayed within is both futile and a tad silly, so have some tact please and don't waste your own time. Lastly, if you feel the need to contact me you may do so:

UK 1985!

"Filthy Trash, an A4 sized punkzine screamed out "I'm so individual'from Batley, but didn't last any longer than a Chinese meal from the takeaway." (As cited in an article on fanzines found at this Website. That sounded kind of patronizing doesn't it?)

Filthy Trash No. 2 UK (1985)
(note: the image above is from no. 1, not the second one.)

Brains Thinking No. 5 UK (1985)

Thanks again Mark for your great contributions! And don't worry about formats, this type of file will do just fine...

Artcore#6

Another nice 1980’s ‘zine from the UK, issue 6 of Artcore features interviews with some good to great hardcore and punk bands such as Life Cycle, Urgent Fury, Spermbirds, Corrosion Of Conformity, Dan and the Cowboy Killers (a personal fave of mine, their two 12”s and first 7”s were awesome and are still totally underrated). There’s also some art, reviews, etc.

Massproduktion 1 & 2 (Sweden, 1980)

To me personally, Swedish record label Massproduktion will always be in my mind remembered in connection to the bunch of great records released on behalf of one of my favorite bands, KRUNCH.

However, for most Swedes the label will be remembered for that hopelessly annoying happy punk pub rock band called RASTA HUNDEN. How many times have I suffered the album played by people at parties? 1000 times maybe? And this people who normally listen to punkmusic, I should add. The name kind of translates to "Take The Dog For A Walk" but is obviously also a play on the word rasta, but whatever. My point is that I seem to be the only sane person left in the world to hate this absolutely disgusting band...

But that is not why I am posting, ha ha. I am posting because I saw a website called Punksvall and it is an archive resource site for the first wave punk scene in Swedish town Sundsvall. It is very good indeed and packed with stuff like info and photos as well as MP3s (under 'Arkiv') that will satisfy those who are incurable hunters of digital KBD-shit. Also you will find fanzines which brings me here tonight, Johnny.

The record label mentioned above started out as a fanzine and I took the liberty to transcribe the two issues from the website above into one simple downloadable folder. And as I insist, I am not ashamed either. The first issue is very KBD (lol) but the second one is sudden all CRASS. Ha. Great. I love it.

Grab them here:

Massproduktion 1 & 2 (Sweden, 1980)

Or click here to read online. I prefer to be able to download the whole bag and then print the fucking thing instead...

And what is up with comments anyway? The Kitten claims we're in the 2000s already and the blogs only been here a few weeks. Jesus, dear visitor, don't be shy now.

Punks Not Dead Magazine UK 1980 (Sounds)

Apologies for the missing files (Sika Apara 2 and maybe more). This is due to Massmirror and everyone knows that it has died a viking death recently.

Here is PUNKS NOT DEAD MAGAZINE from 1980. It is done by the boring people who did SOUNDS. The writing is disgustingly small-minded establishment shit, in my honest opinion, and seems to want to frame the punk narrative around the criteria of Evening Standard and, like, watching football.

But the pictures are great!

Open the floodgates!

Ink Disease #14

I wish I had some earlier issues of this great LA fanzine, but for now, issue #14 of Ink Disease will have to do. Although here the focus seems to be already shifting from hardcore towards other directions, it still includes interesting interviews with some classic bands like The Dickies, Angry Samoans, Naked Raygun and Nomeansno. Sent to me for free by the nice ID editors, it was also my first exposure to the great Savage Republic, which may not be punk or hardcore but released some amazing records nevetheless.

Ink Disease #14

Aversion # 2

Ok here it is. The second coming of Aversion, out in 1995. Feat. 3 Way Cum, Selfish, Scenereports, reviews, articles + more. 28 pages. Great UK zine.

Aversion # 2

Chemical Warfare #4

Youth Of Today, Totalitär, Stikky and Fugazi, all in one issue you ask? You bet! This was one of my favorite 'zines back in the day, I'll dig up a little and try to find other issues I know I had.

Growing up in a rural area of an isolated country, 'zines were the main providers of information not only about bands and punk's musical sub-genres but also about different ideas being debated in the scene(s). I'll be forever thankful to those individuals who in the late 1980's and early 1990's spent their (unemployment or otherwise) money in sending 'zines, leaflets, tapes and records. In fact, I wrote to many of the addresses featured in Chemical Warfare #4, including Revelation Records, who sent me free copies of the Judge's album plus singles by YOT and Quicksand since I was the first to write them from Israel! Who said "Revelation can suck it", huh?

In any case, I hope you'll enjoy the fanzine
